Music | Ana Silvera – Voice of an Angel.

Singer and songwriter, Ana Silvera’s 2019 spring tour kicks off today at Colchester Arts Centre.

Joan Didion once said, “I write entirely to find out what I'm thinking, what I'm looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear.”  These are the words in which Ana Silvera, an angelic singer from London, has based her singing career upon.

Silvera’s spring tour kick-starts today at the Arts Centre, Colchester. Silvera will also be making appearances in cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Oxford and Norwich.

Silvera said: “The tour kicks off in Colchester and it is a 10-date tour, with two of the dates being in Scotland which I am really excited for.  I am going to be playing a mixture of songs, some of which are from my previous Oracles.  I am actually performing with a choir and two special and talented guests which will be a lovely experience.

My hopes for this tour are that I really enjoy playing at the different venues, hopefully, I get to meet some new interesting people and can see brand new places. It also is a good chance to connect to other musicians, which tends to happen on tours and is really nice.”

Silvera has performed in some of the venues previously but it is her first time performing in Scotland. She is elated at the chance to play in The Glad Café, Glasgow and the House Concert, Edinburgh.

“I have never played in Glasgow or Edinburgh before, except for a couple of songs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival so I am just really excited for the chance to play up in Scotland. I just think there is such an inspiring folk music scene in Scotland.”

From an early age, Silvera has been passionate about the arts. As a teenager, she attended Guildhall School of Music followed by literature at University College, London. Previous to her, her mother was an ambitious writer and teacher and this has helped sculpt Ana into the artist she is today.

Silvera said: “A lot of the inspiration for my music comes from other people’s stories, folklore tales and fairy tales. I am really interested in using words as a starting point for my songs and then the music is usually introduced after. I am also inspired by different types of poetry.”

The singer has a social media presence on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. With a steadily growing following, her soaring popularity only highlights the talent in which Ana Silvera possesses.

“I discovered that I could sing when I was about 11-years-old when I was in a music class. I realised that some people couldn’t hold certain tunes, which I found rather strange, and that I could do something that other people my age couldn’t necessarily do.”

After that, I did a lot of singing in choirs and when I was 13-years-old I got a part in a production at the English National Opera. As time went on I realized that I didn't want to go down a classical route despite my love for classical music.  Due to my love of literacy, I really wanted a chance to use words, stories, to put to music."

After the commencement of the 2019 spring tour, Silvera has plans to create a brand-new album and is excited for future tours across the UK and Europe.

Silvera said: “In April, I am going to be recording my second studio album. So, I am just going to be heading to the studio for a week to record and so I am looking forward to that.

Then once I have done that, I am going to lock myself away and write some new music. I have been trying so hard to not write new music at the moment so I can concentrate on the tour!

After I am going to go back to doing more gigs throughout the year and I will also be organizing a winter tour, which I am just working on now.”

With her melodic voice, poetry inspired lyrics and skill with her instruments, Ana Silvera is an extremely talented performer that you do not want to miss!
